Fab Friday Sketch Challenge: That Thing You Did

Good morning!  It's looking like we may actually get a break from the rain with some sun (yeah!!) so I decided to channel those bright and cheery vibes for my card for this weeks Fab Friday sketch challenge.  I'm using another great retiring stamp set, That Thing You Did, for this fun card using a greeting a friend pointed out to me.  Don't you aways need a card that says "But not in a creepy way??"  Haha!!

I started with Mint Macaron cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock.  In the bottom right corner using Basic Black ink I stamped the fun saying and I also use a stamp from a new set coming next month, Painter's Palette for the splatter of Mint Macaron (if you want to make this card right away you could also use Gorgeous Grunge.

I added two pieces of designer series paper from the It's My Party Designer Series Paper Stack (retiring).  The main image is also from the That Thing You Did (retiring) stamp set and was stamped on Melon Mambo cardstock and Basic Black ink before being cut out with the Big Shot and Circles Collection Framelits (retiring) and then attached to the cardfront with dimensionals.  The final touch was to add a black button  from the Neutrals Designer Series Buttons (retiring) and I used the Baker's Twine Combo Pack (retiring) to tie the bow in the button.

Between the bright cheery colors and the fun greeting this card really makes me giggle. This designer series paper stack is one of my all time favorites and I love that there are so many different patterns and colors I'm sad that it's retiring but am happy I still have some for my stash for future projects (I completely admit that I love to collect DSP so I can continue to use it.

Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge: That Thing You Did

Good morning!  I've been working on pulling out all the items on the retiring list and realizing how many great stamps are going away so I'm determined to use them all month long and enjoy (but don't worry the new catalog has some fabulous items coming that I can't wait to get my hands on and know that you will too).  Today I decided to play along with the Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge and make this fun and cheery birthday card.  This sketch right up my alley and the style I've been leaning toward lately but decided to switch up the layout of the card.

I started with Crumb Cake cardstock for the cardbase and then layered Melon Mambo under the Whisper White cardfront.  I started building the cardfront by stamping with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set in Basic Black and Melon Mambo ink.  Next I took a piece Shine On Speciality Designer Series Paper (retiring).  I also punched a piece of It's My Party Designer Series Paper (retiring, it's a got to have paper!) using the 1 3/8" Circle Punch and layered that with a piece of Basic Black that was cut with the Big Shot and Circle Collection Framelits (retiring).

For the greeting I used the That Thing You Did stamp set (retiring and so sad) and stamped it in Melon Mambo ink on Whisper White cardstock and then cut it out with the Big Shot and Oval Collection Framelits (retiring).  I stamped the "Happy Birthday" from the same stamp set using Basic Black ink and then cut it out with the Big Shot and Project Life Cards and Tags Framelits and then sponged around the edge with Melon Mambo ink.  Dimensionals were used on this piece as well.

Of course the card needed a little touches to punch up the WOW element so I tied a know using Crumb Cake 3/8" Glue Dot and then added a few silver sequins from the Metallics Sequin using the Fine Tip Glue Pen.

This card is so fun, and perfect for friends with a "cheeky" personality.  I've decided that this will be one of the cards for this month's Just Cards class so make sure to be there and you can make this card yourself!

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #80

Good morning and Happy Sunday!  It's been a great weekend and looking forward to a nice and relaxing day.  Do you have any big Sunday adventures planned?  I'm starting my day with my card for this weeks Can You Case It? sketch challenge.  We were given this fun and easy sketch that I used for a birthday card I needed.

I started with Mint Macaron for the cardbase and then added a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and the Brick Wall Embossing Folder and then sponged with Crumb Cake and Old Olive ink to really the embossing pop and mimic an age brick wall.  Next I added four squares of designer series paper from the Pretty Petals Designer Series Paper stack.  I used the Big Shot and Square Collection Framelits to cut out the squares.  For a little embellishment I added a little piece of Pacific Point 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon along with a Black Button from the Neutrals Buttons Collection with a Basic Black Baker's Twine bow tied in the center.

The greeting is from the That Thing You Did stamp set and is stamped on Mint Macaron cardstock with Tuxedo Memento Black ink and then cut out with the Big Shot and the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits.  I finished it off by sponging it with Crumb Cake ink and attached it to the cardfront with dimensionals.

I absolutely love that with our fabulous designer paper, embellishments, and stamps is really easy to make a card that looks really complicated but isn't.  You can check out the other design team cards for further inspiration and then come play along.

GoDivas Convention Swap: That Thing You Did

Good afternoon!  It’s been a whirlwind of a first day and it’s only just starting we have lots of classes this afternoon and the we have the awards program and big 1920’s afterparty tonight (I can’t wait but I’m going to have to make it an early night tonight since some of us are getting up early, early, early tomorrow to go run the Deseret Classic Half Marathon which is part of Utah’s Pioneer Day festivities (yeah I know I’m crazy, but love every minute of it!)  So as you may know one of the big activities during any gathering of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators is swapping.  Basically you make a lot of the one card design and so does everyone else and then you “swap” so you get lots of new ideas from other demonstrators.  It’s super fun!  So this afternoon I had a group swap with a new swap group I joined the GoDivas, let me tell you these ladies rock!!! And I’m so honored to be part of the group.  So this is the card I made for this swap and I hope the ladies love it.

I started with Soft Suede cardstock for the cardbase and then layered a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock that was stamped all over with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.  Next I took a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock and embossed it with the Big Shot and the Brickwall Embossing Folder (I also sponged all over the embossing with Crumb Cake ink for a more distressed look).  Next I took a piece of Basic Black Cardstock and heat embossed the greeting from the That Thing You Did stamp set using Versamark ink, White Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.  After that was done I took a sponge dauber and some Whisper White Craft Ink and rubbed it on the cardstock for a chalkboard effect.  This piece was then matted with Soft Suede cardstock.

For some texture I ruffled up a piece of Chevron 5/8” Natural Ribbon and attached it to the cardfront with the Handheld stapler.  The final touch was to add a small star using the Gold Foil Paper and the Big Shot and the Circle Card Thinlit die and attached it to the card with a dimensional.

I absolutely love this new stamp set, so much so that I have to warn you now I used it on several other swap cards so you’ll get lots of ideas using the same set (trust me you will have to have this when I’m done sharing!!!)

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Blog Hop: Anything Goes!!

Good morning!  It’s the second Thursday of the month, which means it’s time for another blog hop with the Stylin’ Stampin’ INKspiration designers.  July is full of family, vacations, fun, holidays, and so much more that we decided that for this months hop, anything goes so we’re all playing around with our own favorites!  I’m hard at work getting ready for convention which is in a couple of weeks which means lots of swaps so I have lots of goodies from the new catalog out in the studio (it really looks like a tornado came through but the best creativity is messy, right?  One of the stamp sets I’ve been having lots of fun with recently is That Thing You Did so I decided to use it for this months hop card. As you hop along, please be sure to comment and show some love on every blog! We are always excited to hear from our followers! You should have just left stop number 1 on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Blog Hop - Jenny at Jenny G Paper Crafts. If so, you are in the right spot. If a link doesn't work or you get off track, you will find the full blog hop lineup below.

I started with Island Indigo for the cardbase and then added a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and Brick Wall Embossing Folder (I love this new embossing folder), I also sponged all over the cardstock with Crumb Cake ink which really adds a lot of texture and dimension to the brick look.  Next I added a flag using the Soft Suede DSP from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack (used the Triple Banner Punch to cut the tails).  The next layer of flag was made using Crumb Cake cardstock and was embossed with the Big Shot and Decorative Dots Embossing Folder (sponged this layer also with Crumb Cake ink).
For the greeting I used the That Thing You Did stamp set and stamped on Basic Black ink using Versamark Ink and then Heat Embossed it with the Heat Tool and White Embossing Powder.  To help give it that chalkboard look I used a sponge dauber to add some Whisper White Craft Ink all over the cardstock.  After attaching all the flags to the cardfront I punched a couple of holes using the ¼” Handheld Punch at the top so I could thread a piece of ¼” Island Indigo Cotton Ribbon through the holes for the fun bow at the top.
The mix of regal and neutral colors work great for masculine cards, but would be good for anyone, and this stamp set with the brick wall and chalkboard make me think of school time fun (yes I was one of those kids who enjoyed going to school and looked forward to it).  I did make a another card using this stamp set and several elements so you’ll get to see another take using the same products.
