SSINKspiration Back to Nature: Waterfront

Good morning!  What a cold, dreary weekend we had.  Certainly not something I wanted to spend lots of time in outside so I was happy today the SSINKspiration designers are taking it "back to nature" for today's cards so I could create something I more like to enjoy while I'm outdoors.  The Waterfront stamp set in the Occasions Catalog is so awesome but I haven't been able to give it any love so I finally got it inky this weekend.  I also got to try out the Brusho Crystal Colour for the first time and oh my, love it!   (I actually used it on three different projects this weekend and created different looks each time.)

I started with Crumb Cake cardstock for the cardbase and then used Very Vanilla for the cardfront.  To create the background I started by spritzing the cardstock with water and then lightly sprinkling with the Blue Brusho and then used my Aqua Painter to swirl the color around to create a watercolor look.  Then I set it aside to dry (it does take a little while depending on how much water you add but you can always speed the drying up with the Heat Tool).  Once the background was try I stamped the greeting on the back using Basic Black ink.

For the main stamped image I cut a circle out of Very Vanilla Cardstock using the Big Shot and Stitched Shapes Framelits then I started building my image (and since this set is photopolymer it's really easy to line up all the images just how I want.  I used different shades of blue Stampin' Write Markers and colored directly on the stamp to create all the different shades of water so it looks like it has movement).  Before attaching the piece to the cardfront I added a strip of designer series paper from the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack and then added the stamped piece with dimensionals.  The final touch is a bow tied with 1/4" Copper Trim.

Now doesn't this look much more appealing than what we had this weekend?  This looks like the perfect place for a relaxing hike or family camping trip, come on spring I know you're almost here!

Donut Believe it: There's a Teenager in the House!

Good morning!  So last week celebrated a huge occasion in our house, Aidan became a teenager (whoo hoo!)  Of course I had to make him an over the top card to help celebrate but wanted to wait to share it until all the birthday fun was other.  So like most kids, donuts are on of Aidan's favorite foods so I was so excited to see a donut print paper in the Picture Perfect Party Designer Series Paper and knew it would be the highlight of the card.  Aidan also got a love of glitter from his mama so I knew I had to add lots of bling and sparkle to his card.

I started with Bermuda Bay cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Basic Black cardstock as a mat for the Picture Perfect Party Designer Series Paper (these donuts look good enough to eat, but are calorie free!!).

I used the Big Shot and Happy Birthday Thinlits Die and a Silver Foil Sheet to cut the greeting and then just cut the 2 words apart because I knew this card need to have a big "13" on it.  I used the Large Numbers Framelits and the green glimmer paper from the Myths and Magic Glimmer Paper and then used dimensionals to pop up the numbers.  To finish off the card I used the Number of Years Stamp set to stamp the "th" on Whisper White cardstock with Bermuda Bay ink and then cut it down with the Big Shot and Stitched Shapes Framelits before attaching the piece to the cardfront with dimensionals.

I fell in love with this card when it was done, come on donuts and glitter, it's perfect!  And Aidan loved it as well, along with the gift that went along with it.  This DSP from the Occasions catalog makes it so easy to make fun cards perfect for any birthday and I love the realistic images and patterns!!

Hand Stamped Sentiments Sketch Challenge: Color Me Happy

Good morning!  Today I decided to play along with this weeks Hand Stamped Sentiments sketch challenge for a bright and cheery card which matches the unusually warm weather we have this week (trust me, no complaints here).

I started with Pool Party cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Petal Passion Designer Series Paper (I used the natural watercolor look of the DSP for the splatter look on the sketch).  Next I took a piece of Night of Navy cardstock and embossed it with the Big Shot and Sweetheart Embossing Folder before wrapping a piece of Pumpkin Pie 1/4" Stitched-Edge Ribbon around the cardfront and tied a knot.

For the main stamped image I decided to use my Stampin' Blends again (really falling in love with these) so I stamped the greeting from the Color Me Happy stamp set on Whisper White cardstock with Momento Black ink and then used Pool Party, Night of Navy, and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends to color it in before cutting it out with the Big Shot and Layering Ovals FramelitsDimensionals were used to attach the greeting to the cardfront.

I really like how the black background helps the colors really pop, for a nice classic look and this is such a classic sketch it would work for almost anything, and not even just cards.

SSINKspiration Fancy Fold Challenge #SSINKFF3 Shaker Cards: Lemon Zest

Good morning!  It's always a little extra fun when you get a card that's a littler interactive that you can play with and enjoy.  This months fun fold challenge over on the SSINKspiration blog is shaker cards which definitely falls into that interactive card group and even though they look hard, they're actually pretty easy.

For the today's card I started with a Lemon Lime Twist card base and envelope from the Tutti-Fruitti Cards and Envelopes pack (a SAB Freebie) which has some fun patterns on both the cardbase and envelope.  Next I used the Big Shot and Layering Squares Framelits to make the piece that looks like a polaroid picture using Whisper White cardstock.  I used the Lemon Zest stamp set and stamped the greeting in Basic Black ink before making the shaker piece.  I added a piece of Window Sheet behind the window and then Foam Adhesive strips around the opening to seal in the sequins.  I used the Metallics Sequin Assortment for lots of fun colors.

To finish off the card I stamped the lemon using Daffodil Delight ink and the leaf in Lemon Lime Twist before punching them out with the coordinating Lemon Builder Punch and attached it with dimensionals.  I used some Basic Black Solid Baker's Twine to make a double bow to balance out the card.

The bright colors and sparkly sequins are sure to brighten someone's special day and I stamped a cheeky citrus saying for the inside (also from the stamp set) at add to the fun.  The other design team members are sharing some great shaker cards so go check them out for inspiration and we would love for you to play along with us and share what you create.
