SSINKspiration CASE the Designer (Cheryl Hamilton): Dragonfly Dreams

Good morning and Happy Friday!  Holy wind Batman is it crazy outside, there are definitely no dragonflies out and about today.  Today the SSINKspiration designers are playing another round of CASE the Designer.  This month we're focusing on Cheryl Hamilton and her wonderful creations.  I had fun looking through Cheryl's blog for project inspiration, so much to choose from, and when I saw this ship in a bottle card for one of her card classes, see Cheryl's card HERE.  Now I don't have the stamp set Cheryl used but I used the background idea and sketch as inspiration for my card.

I started with Smoky Slate cardstock for the cardbase and then added Basic Black for the mat on my Whisper White cardfront.  I embossed the cardfront with the Big Shot and Ruffled Dynamic Embossing folder and then used Brusho Crystal Color and an Aqua Painter to create the watercolor background (I spritzed the cardstock with water first and then used my Heat Tool to dry the cardstock so I could finish the card.)

The greeting is from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and was stamped on Smoky Slate cardstock with Basic Black ink before cutting it out with the Big Shot and Layering Ovals Framelits.  I used the coordinating Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits and Big Shot to cut the string of dragonflies out of Silver Foil cardstock so it really pops againsted the blue watercolor wash.  The final touch was to add some enamel dots from the Metallics and Subtles Enamal Shapes sets.

I definitely feel several similar elements in both my card and Cheryl's, while adding my own spin, I hope Cheryl approves.

30 Day Gratitude Challenge: Day 20 (SSINKspiration Technique Challenge #SSINKTC49)

Good morning!  Today the SSINKspiration designers have a technique challenge and we're using the eclipse technique.  This technique became popular after the solar eclipse in August and it's really easy.  Most times I've seen this technique used with letters but I decided to change it up and use the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, which are so beautiful, just watch out for all the little pieces.

I started with Whisper White Thick cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Berry Burst cardstock.  The designer series paper is from the Delightful Daisy DSP pack and I love the watercolor look to this pattern.  I started by running the DSP and thinlits through the Big Shot (now here it's key to make sure you don't loose any of the little pieces you would normally trash when you cut out an image.  I attached the cardfront DSP to the Berry Burst layer and then used Mini Dimensionals (I had to cut some of them into quarters to get pieces small enough to add to the back of the dragonfly pieces and attached it so the cut out dragonflies are raised.  Now comes the fun part, I glued all the little pieces from inside the cutout directly to the Berry Burst layer so they were below the raised dragonflies (just be patient and use either Paper Snips to help place and push down the pieces or a paper piercer).  This took a little while but man I love the end result.

To finish off the card I stamped the greeting from the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set in Berry Burst ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut it out with the Big Shot and Layering Ovals Framelits.  I used my favorite Silver 3/8" Metallic-Edge Ribbon to wrap around the cardfront and then tied a little bow to attach.  Of course I used dimensionals to attach the greeting since you know I like my greetings popped up.

SSINKspiration Technique Challenge #SSINKTC42: Stained Glass Dragonfly

Good morning!  We had another fun filled weekend that also included so dramatic weather swings that at one point generated a text from Aidan that said Mocha and I have taken refuge from storm in the office.."  (Just a bit melodramatic!)  at least in all the craziness I was able to get a little time in the studio for stamping, which I've really missed.  Since it's Monday it's time for another challenge over on the SSINKspiration blog and this week it's the technique challenge so I knew I had to get in on this action, this month we're using the stained glass technique which is always fun and I decided to break out the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set for some fun!

I stared with Sahara Sand cardstock for the cardbase and then added a layer of Emerald Envy cardstock and stamped with the dot image along the left side using Elegant Eggplant ink.  To create the stained glass image I stamped the large dragonfly image on a piece of Vellum cardstock using Versamark ink and heat embossed with the Heat Tool and Copper Emboss Powder.  After the embossing had set I flipped the image over and colored on the backside using Stampin' Write Markers (Elegant Eggplant, Emerald Envy, and Dapper Denim colors, I like to use darker colors for this technique so they really show through).








Here's a close up of the dragonfly so you can see the coloring of the wings.







Once I was done coloring I added a piece of Whisper White cardstock behind the velum and then added a strip of Dapper Denim Designer Series paper  (from the 2016-2018 In Color DSP Stack) along the bottom of the image.  I added a Delicate White Doily to peak out from the left side of the image and added a small bow tied with Dapper Denim 3/8" Ruched Ribbon at the top for a fun accent.

The final touch is the greeting, I love the font used in this stamp set and after stamping on Sahara Sand cardstock using Elegant Eggplant ink I cut the greeting out with the Big Shot and Stitched Shapes Framelits before attaching it to the cardfront with dimensionals.




I love how soft and pretty this card is while still using such saturated colors, they really help the copper accent pop!  The other design team members are sharing some great ideas using this same technique so go check them out and then we would love for you to play along with us and share what you create.  This is definitely a technique you'll want to have in your crafting tool box for all sorts of projects!
