Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch Challenge: Chalk Talk

Good morning!  Yeah, I’m so excited for this holiday weekend!  Anytime you have extra time off to spend with friends and family, and relax is always a good thing so this should be a great weekend.  Before the fun can get started we have to get through work and I have some fun to share with you.  It’s Friday so I have a new Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch Challenge and once again I combined it with the Stylin' Stampin' INKspirationblog Retiring Favorites by using the Chalk Talk stamp set.  For this weeks sketch challenge, I was the designer and it’s always fun to see what people come up with using your layout.

I started with Lost Lagoon for the cardbase and then added a piece of DSP from the Flowerpot Designer Series Paper (the patterns in this DSP are so soft and classic using a fun mix of colors, that I’ll admit I wouldn’t have thought of mixing together).  I used another strip of the DSP in a coordinating print for the flag along the bottom, along with a piece of Crushed Curry Chevron Ribbon.

For the main focal piece I used the Chalk Talk stamp set and stamped the frame piece of Blushing Bride cardstock with the same color ink and cut it out with the Big Shot and Chalk Talk Framelits.  The greeting is from the same set and was colored in using Stampin’ Write Markers and I punched it out with the Extra Large Oval Punch before using dimensionals to attach both stamped layers to the cardfront.  For a final accent I punched  little flower out of the DSP using the flower from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack and added a rhinestone to the center.

The Chalk Talk stamp set is one of my favorites and the fact that it has matching framelits is awesome so I’m sad it’s retiring but glad I have it in my studio to use in the future.  Please go check out the projects the other designers are sharing on both blogs and then come play along (you have extra time this week so hope you have some crafting fun!)

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Scrapbook Sketch Challenge: SSInkLS21

 Good morning!  We're starting another week and looking forward to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend (holiday weekends are always better).  Since it's the third Monday of the month, you know that it's time for another scrapbook challenge over on the
Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog.  I had another race this weekend which was a lot of fun but since I'm working on trying to finish up my 2013 and 2014 digital albums before the end of the month when My Digital Studio and digital print products are retired I decided to use this months sketch for a race I was in last year.  I like to include all these pictures in my yearly album to remember how far we've come an each moment and since a lot of these layouts really highlight just a picture or two it's perfect.  I loved the Nike Women's Half Marathon last year in DC (unfortunately they're not having it in DC this year). At the end of the race instead of getting the usual race medal you get these beautiful Tiffany necklaces by these charming hotties (who wouldn't want to run 13.1 miles if you knew this would be at the end??)

I was able to use lots of different DSP prints and colors for the elements on this page.  It is nice that even after My Digital Studio is retired I'll still be able to use the program and all the downloads I've purchased to continue making projects, just working to make sure I've back ups of everything!  Don't forget to make sure you have this program and any downloads you want downloaded before the end of the month so you can continue using this great tool for your future project (and if you have any projects in work finish them up so you can get them ordered before the print products services are no longer available).

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #70

 Happy Sunday!  It’s another race day (can’t believe I booked these back to back but this moring I’m running with the Marines down in Fredericksburg at the Historic Half so I’m excited, let’s see if I can conquer Hospital Hill!!)  I had a little bit of time yesterday in the studio and am loving the new In Colors and new catalog products I’ve gotten to see so far (you will love them too!)  The Can You Case It? Design team is changing things up so this week I’m not one of the design team members but just playing along for fun with everyone else.  This weeks theme was flowers and boy is that wide open for interpretation and creation!  I decided to mix it up with several different prints and stamps so it’s full of color and fun.

I started with Pool Party cardstock for the cardbase and then added a layer of DSP from the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper Pack.  I took a different pattern from the same package and matted it with Daffodil Delight cardstock and wrapped some Wild Wasabi Baker’s Twine from the Painted Blooms Cotton Baker’s Twine package before attaching it to the cardfront.

For the stamped image I used the Bloom with Hope stamp set and stamped the image in Wild Wasabi ink before coloring it in with Stampin’ Write Markers.  I punched out the flower with the 2” Circle Punch and then punched out the mat with Rose Red cardstock and the 2 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch and then attached to the cardfront with dimensionals.  The greeting is from the same stamp set and was stamped with Rich Razzleberry ink and then punched out with the Modern Label Punch.  Dimensionals were again used to attach the greeting to the cardfront and then I added a little bling with some rhinestones on the greeting piece.

I love birthday’s so this card has lots cheer perfect to celebrate a special day and flowers are everywhere this time of year so this reminds me of spring.  It also has lots of retiring products so don’t miss out on getting these before they go away!

Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch Challenge: From the Heart

Good morning!  Another crazy work week is coming to an end and looking forward to some fun (and another race) this weekend!  I think summer is trying to shove spring out of the way, I wouldn’t mind the cooler weather staying around as long as possible.  My preorder goodies came yesterday from the new catalog so I’m looking forward to some play time in the studio this week (just wait you are going to love what’s in store in the new catalog!)  It’s Friday, which means it’s time for this weeks Sketch Frenzy Friday sketch challenge and I decided to combine this one again with the retiring favorites posts over on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog (so many great things are retiring I’ve got to enjoy them while I can (and maybe you’ll fall in love!)  I actually used five retiring items on this card but my favorite is the Flashback Designer Series Paper.

I started with Pool Party cardstock and then added a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock that I embossed with the Big Shot and Beautifully Baroque Embossing Folder.  Next I added two different patterns from the Flashback Designer Series Paper and also added a piece of Smoky Slate Chevron Ribbon.

For the main stamped image I used the From my Heart Stamp set stamped it on Very Vanilla cardstock using Stampin’ Write Markers to color in the image before stamping.   Then I cut out the image using the Big Shot and Label Collection Framelits.  I used dimensionals to pop the greeting up over the ribbon for height.

This card is light and airy and the sentiment is really speaking to me given issues that I’ve encountered (so true!). Sometimes little pops of color are all you need to make you smile.  Make sure to check out the other design team members created for inspiration and then play along for some fun this weekend.

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Kit Projects: Hello Life

Good morning!  One of the great additions to our recent catalogs are Simply Created Kits, which provides cute project ideas with all the supplies, and instructions, and all preparation is complete.  It's a great way for anyone to make cute projects quickly, easily, and without a lot of supplies.  This years Occasions catalog is no exception and the one kit I instantly fell in love with was the Hello Life Kit.  Today over on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog we're providing some alternate project ideas using these great kits.

With the Hello Life kit you received twice as many elements as you needed to make the photo display so you have extras to either add to the display grid, or in this case I used several pieces to make this cute card.  All I added was some Smoky Slate cardstock or the cardbase,  piece of Basic Grey cardstock that I embossed with the Big Shot and Polka Dot Embossing Folder, and some Basic Black Baker's Twine.  I used the coordinating Hello Life stamp set for the greeting on the photo frame.

All the little elements are so cute on their own and the work equally well together for the perfect accent elements.  I still have lots of pieces left from the kit so I can't wait to make more cards with the elements so they don't go to waste.

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Blog Card Sketch Challenge: Really Good Greetings

 Good morning!  After a whirlwind weekend full of Disney, fun, and running, I ended the trip on a redeye home last night and have just landed (boy I really need a vacation to recover from these vacations, but it’s back to work we go!)  It’s the second Monday of the month so over on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspirationblog it’s time for a card sketch.  I know I’ve said it before how much I enjoy card sketches as it allows you to change up your card layouts and really help stretch you creationally.  I really liked this month’s layout as it shows the On Film Framelits and love the photo look on cards right now.

I started with Smoky Slate for the cardbase and then added a piece of Pistachio Pudding cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and Beautifuly Baroque  Embossing Folder.  For the “picture frame” I used one of the extra pieces from the Hello Life Simply Created Kit (but you could also create one using DSP and the On Film Framelits).  For the “picture” I stamped the greeting from the Really Good Greetings stamp set (using Stampin’ Write Markers) and then used the Dotty Angles stamp set using Silver Encore Ink.  Next I wrapped a piece of Pistachio Pudding Thick Baker’s Twine around the “picture frame” and tied a bow.  The final touch was to add a little bling by punching out a butterfly using the Itty Bitty Butterfly Punch and then embossing it with the Big Shot and Fancy Fans Embossing Folder.  I used a blendabilities marker to color some rhinestones to attach for the body of the butterfly

 

 

 

The mix of soft color and bold black, which hints of silver are really fun and I was really surprised at how much I liked this card after I finished it.  The other design team members are sharing some great cards so please go check them out and then come play along and share what you create!

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #69

Happy Sunday!  What an amazing time!  I’ve having so much fun this weekend at Disneyland and this morning I’m running my last race, the Tinkerbell Half Marathon.  It’s so much fun running through the parks, seeing the characters, costumes, spectators, and everything, it really makes for a memorable experience.  Of course since it’s Sunday it’s time for the weekly Can You Case It? Sketch challenge and I decided to pull out a new stamp set, From the Herd, and enjoy some time coloring with this card.

I started with Tangerine Tango cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Whisper White Cardstock with a piece of Birthday Bash Speciality Designer Series Paper along the bottom.  I used Black Memento ink to stamp the main image and then a mix of my Blendabilites markers and Stampin’ Write Markers to color in all the fun barn animals.  For the two little flags I not only used a different pattern of DSP from the same package but also used a piece of Pear Pizzaz Chevron Ribbon.  The greeting is from the same stamp set and is stamped on Night of Navy cardstock with Versamark ink and heat embossed with the Heat Tool and Whisper White Embossing Powder.

 

What do you think, too much?  These guys are too cute!!  I had been looking at this stamp set but hadn’t got it yet and then I received it free for a Stampin’ Up! event I went to last weekend (love being a SU demo) so I knew I had to use it, and come on we all used to love to color as kids and I’ll tell you it’s still as relaxing today!  The designers are sharing some other great cards so go check them out for further inspiration and come play along, you can use this for any project you need, card, scrapbook page, home décor, etc.

Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch Challenge & SSI Retiring Favorities: Starburst Sayings

 Good morning!  I’m greeting you today from the left coast as I’ve arrived safely in CA and looking forward to a fun day at Disneyland.  I’m starting the day with the race expo and packet pickup and then will head over to check out the parks (I haven’t been to Disneyland since I was a senior in High School so this will be fun) before the races start on Saturday.

Today I’m sharing a card that’s a combo using this weeks Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch challenge along with the Stylin’ Stampin’ INKspiration blog retiring favorites post (using the Starburst Sayings stamp set).  Kim gave us a really fun sketch this week that provides lots of fun with multiple elements.  As you know I’m a sucker for stamp sets with matching punches and/or framelits so I was excited when this set was released and have enjoyed playing with it.  I started with Pear Pizzaz for the cardbase and then added a piece of Basic Gray cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder.  Next I added a piece of Confetti Celebration Designer Series Paper across the center of the card and used different coordinating patterns in the DSP package for two of the three little flags.  For the center flag I used a piece of Pumpkin Pie Chevron Ribbon (I love this ribbon and am sad it’s leaving but I have a stash I get to work through). 

The greeting is from the Starburst Sayings stamp set (retiring) and I stamped it using Versamark ink on Smoky Slate cardstock and heat embossed it using the Heat Tool and Crushed Curry Embossing Powder (it’s interesting how when you start doing something it becomes fun and you use it for several projects in a row, in this case heat embossing).  To cut out the greeting I used the Big Shot and Starbust Collection Framelits and then attached it to the card with dimensionals.

I’ve been so interested in this DSP all year how it combines bright bold colors along with softer colors and it works (I wouldn’t have thought of that).  The design teams on both blogs are sharing some fun cards so make sure to check them out and then come play along with the Sketch Frenzy Friday ladies, we’d love to have you!

Anniversary Wishes: Yippee-Skippee

Happy Wednesday!  I always look forward to Wednesday but this Wednesday is extra special is it’s my 15^th wedding anniversary (can’t believe Chris and I have been married 15 years but boy have things changed, for the better).  We don’t normally do anything crazy for our anniversary but of course I have to make him a special card, big shock I know.

I started with Blackberry Bliss for the cardbase and then added a piece of Gold Foil Vellum (backed with Whisper White cardstock).  I stamped the “Happy Anniversary” greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set using Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with the Heat Tool and Basic Black Embossing Powder.  When I was embossing it I noticed that the gold foil in the stripes started bubbling up for a rough effect which I really liked so I used my Heat Tool to add this effect to all the stripes.  Next I added a strip of Basic Black cardstock then then layered a piece of Gold Satin Ribbon on top.

For the greeting I decided to go to one of my favorites Yippee-Skippee (so sad it’s retiring) since it has this great say “Never Underestimate the Power of Two”.  During our relationship we’ve had lots of ups and downs but through it all we’ve worked as a team to solve problems, achieve goals, whatever it was and it has really helped us before stronger as a couple.  Anyway, back to the card, I stamped the greeting in Versamark and used Gold Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool to emboss the image before punching it out with the 2” Circle Punch.  I created a mat using some Blackberry Bliss cardstock, Big Shot, and the Window Collection Framelits (also retiring so don’t miss out on these).  I wanted to add some texture to the mat so I embossed it using the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder and Big Shot.  Dimensionals help the greeting piece stand up over the flag pieces perfectly for extra dimension.

I love how elegant this card turned out with the gold, purple, and black perfect for a milestone event (and it’s definitely not girly!!) can’t wait to give it to Chris and see what he thinks.

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Color Sketch: Yippee-Skippee

 Good morning!  It’s a short week for me and I’m really looking forward to my getaway, even if I’ll be flying solo to one of the happiest places on earth!  Before I head out I have a lot on my to do list so I’m going to work as hard as I can to get as much done so I can plan and not stress.  With the start of a new month it’s always fun to see what new challenges are in store for us onver on the Stylin’ Stampin’ INKspiration blog and today we’re kicking off the month with our color sketch challenge.  These are always fun since it gets you to use colors and combinations that you may not normally think of.

I started with Crisp Cantalope (retiring) for the cardbase and then added a piece of Island Indigo cardstock as a mat for my stamped Whisper White cardstock.  On the white cardstock I started by stamping with the Background Rules stamp (so sad it’s retiring) using Crisp Cantaloupe ink and then sponged all over it using Hello Honey, Island Indigo, and even Sahara Sand ink to really distress it. 

I added a piece of Hello Honey striped DSP from the Lullaby Designer Series Paper.  Next I added a piece of Island Indigo Chevron Ribbon as the second layer.  The greeting is from the Yippee Skippee stamp set (one of my favorites and oh so sad it’s also retiring, but staying in my stash).  I stamped the greeting on Chalkboard Paper using the Rose Coral Color Box Chalk Ink (it looks similar to Crisp Cantaloupe).  The final touch was to add a bow using some Crisp Cantaloupe Thick Baker’s Twine so I punched a couple holes using the ¼” Handheld Punch to thread the baker’s twine through the paper.  Dimensionals were used to attach the greeting tag to the cardfront.

This was a unique color combination but it’s always fun to see what you come up with when you step out of your comfort zone.  The designers are sharing some other great cards so go check them out for further inspiration and come play along.

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #68

Happy Sunday!  It’s been another crazy weekend, but I guess at this point that should be the norm (would hate for lift to be boring!)  Had fun hanging out with the family yesterday and then had some girlfriend fun last night, whoo hoo!  I’m heading to Disneyland next week for the Tinkerbell Race weekend so today it’s all about getting everything packed and ready to go (it’s crazy how much “stuff” I need to pack on “race-cations” but I’m really looking forward to this trip, haven’t been to Disneyland since I was in high school.  Of course since it’s Sunday it’s time for the weekly Can You Case It? Sketch challenge and I really had fun with the clean, simple sketch we were provided.  I know with the excitement of the retiring products announcement I’ll be focusing this month on stamps and products that we’ll be saying goodbye to but we can’t forget some of the fabulous products in the Occasions catalog as well.  So I decided to focus on the Adventure Awaits product suite for today’s card.

I started with Smoky Slate cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of You Plus Me Designer Series Paper (love all these basic black and white patterns that can be used for any occasion).  Next I took a piece of the Adventure Bounds DSP (love these beautiful photographic prints) and I stamped the greeting with the Adventure Awaits Stamp set using Memento Black ink and I matted it with Smoky Slate cardstock before attaching it to the cardfront.

Now I had loads of fun with the embellishments (may have gone a bit overboard, but that’s OK).  I started by punching out a piece of Silver Foil Cardstock with the 1 3/8” Circle Punch and then embossed it with the Tiny Triangles Embossing Folder.  I added a piece of Basic Black Chevron Ribbon as a little flag sticking out from behind the circle.  I used some Basic Black Baker’s Twine and made several loops and attached them so they peaked out from behind of the boy I made using the Island Indigo ¼” Cotton Ribbon. 

What do you think, too much?  This is definitely not a “mailable” card but I love how soft it is and would certainly brighten up a day when there isn’t a specific holiday/occasion to celebrate.  This is the best time to surprise someone, when it’s truly unexpected.  The designers are sharing some other great cards so go check them out for further inspiration and come play along, you can use this for any project you need, card, scrapbook page, home décor, etc.

Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch Challenge: Mixed Bunch

Good morning!  It’s May already, how is that possible?  Since I’m in a house full of boys there’s been an added focus the past couple weeks on super hero movies with the upcoming release of the new Avengers movie so we joined the “crazies” last night to catch the first showing of the movie before it’s officially released today, it was a lot of fun!  Today I’m sharing a card that’s a combo using this weeks Sketch Frenzy Friday Sketch challenge along with the Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration blog  retiring favorites post (using the Mixed Bunch stamp set).  I have to admit that when this stamp set was initially released a few years ago I didn’t care for it and didn’t buy it but it was one of the free sets we received at Leadership Conference so we had several make & takes using the stamp set and immediately I was in love and been using it ever since.  Patrice provided this weeks card sketch and I really like how it leaves a lot up to the creators preference and used the Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper as the foundation for my color selection (I loved this paper since it was first released and since it’s retiring will be enjoying it in my stash for personal projects).

I started with Tempting Turquoise for the cardbase and then added a piece of the DSP for a fun background and wrapped a piece of Rich Razzleberry ¼” Cotton Ribbon around the DSP.  For the flower I stamped the Mixed Bunch flower twice using Rich Razzleberry ink on Melon Mambo cardstock before punching it out with the coordinating Blossom Punch.  I used a bone folder to curl up the petals of the flowers and layered them for a fuller flower.  In the center of the flower I added a Pacific Point button from the Brights Designer Buttons and tied a bow in the button using Crushed Curry Baker’s Twine.

For the greeting I used another retiring stamp set, Really Good Greetings. After stamping it in Pacific Point ink on Whisper White cardstock I punched it out with the Oval Punch and matted it with Old Olive cardstock punched out using the Scalloped Oval Punch.  Dimensionals were used to attach the greeting to the cardfront.

I’ve always been a fan of our brights color family and love when we have some great DSP that really lets these colors shine and provide some fun so here’s hoping for some equally fun paper in the new catalog.  The design teams on both blogs are sharing some fun cards so make sure to check them out and then come play along with the Sketch Frenzy Friday ladies, we’d love to have you!

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Masculine Monday: Guy Greetings

Happy Monday!  I hope you enjoyed your weekend, why is it that the weekend flys by and week days last so much long?  Just doesn't seem right.  Since it's the fourth Monday of the month it's time for Masculine Monday on the  Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration.  I always have fun with these posts as it gives me an excuse to work on those "dude" cards.  My dad's birthday is next month so I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to get his card finished.

I started with Lost Lagoon for the cardbase and then added a piece of DSP from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack (I sponged all over the DSP with Sahara Sand and Early Espresso ink for a more distressed look.  The stamps are from the Guy Greetings stamp set and I stamped the car in Early Espresso and the words in Blackberry Bliss ink.

Along the left side of the card I added a piece of Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper (that was sponged with Lost Lagoon and Sahara Sand ink) and matted it with Blackberry Bliss cardstock.  The final touch was to added some Lost Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon.

This card is nice and simple with an elegance that I hope my dad will appreciate, the different patterns are fun to play against each other.  The other design team members are sharing some great cards as well so make sure you check them out for further inspiration (remember father's day isn't too far away so if you don't have any guy birthdays coming up this set would also be great for getting a head start on Father's Day cards and projects.

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #67

Happy Sunday!  What is this?  I really thought it was spring but it’s been downright cold, really hope this doesn’t last long.  Of course, just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy all the beauty of spring.  For this weeks Can You Case It? Sketch challenge we were given the theme of Mother’s Day, which naturally leads us to flowers.  I know I shared recently how I’ve fallen in love with the Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper so it was a natural selection for this card.

I started with Sahara Sand cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Painted Blooms Designer Series Paper.  For the main stamped image I used the Crazy about You stamp set and stamped the leaves in Wild Wasabi ink and the “Mother’s Day” in Pacific Point ink.  I used the coordinating framelits to cut out the happy using Rich Razzleberry cardstock and the Big Shot.  I matted this layer with Pacific Point cardstock before wrapping some Wild Wasabi Cotton Twine (from the Painted Blooms Cotton Twine Pack) around the layer and tying a bow.

For a final touch I stamped a flower from the Petite Petals stamp set (using Pacific Point ink and Soft Sky cardstock) and punched it out with the Petite Petals Punch.  I curled the edges of the flower using my bone folder and attached it to the cardfront with a glue dot.  For mom, this card needs a little dazzle so I added a pearl to the center of the flower which is the perfect addition.
