Halloween Sleepover: MDS Style

Happy Halloween friends!  With all the storm activity this week it seems like Halloween is an after thought.  Thankfully our friends and family all are doing well after the storm but our thoughts and prayers are with those that are still suffering and trying to recover.  So last weekend Aidan hosted his first sleepover and it was a Halloween theme since he couldn't have the party on Halloween itself.  Being the crazy mom I am I decided to make the decorations, invitation, etc. using My Digital Studio 2 and the Monster Munchies digital download.  This first item was a banner (please excuse the pictures, I had a hard time photographing such a large item).  I used several of the treat labels and added them to pennants and flags that I had decorated.  See the close ups below:

I used the Pennant die to cut the flag and added a bow with the Scalloped Polka Dot ribbon.

For the flags I hand cut the tails and stamped them with the spiderweb from the Wicked Cool stamp set.  I used the Simply Scored board to create the lollies, added a piece of 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon as well as a bat (used the retired bat punch, this is still one of my favorites!) and rhinestones for the eyes.

I also decided to make cute little cupcake toppers.  I used the coaster pieces and shrunk them down so I could punch them out with the 1 3/4" circle punch (that way I could also fit more to a page).  Then I just added a toothpick and the 2 3/8" scallop circle punch for the mat.

I also decided to use the pre-designed invitation template for invitations to the sleepover.  These were so easy, added some text as well as the Pumpkin Pie button and taffeta bow and sent them off to the printer.  I even stamped the envelopes to match before they were handed out.

This was the back of the invitation.  The stamps are from the Toxic Treats digital stamp set (you get to print both sides of the invitation for the same price with Stampin' Up!'s digital print services which was awesome!)

I don't know if the boys were all that excited about the decorations but Aidan loved them and I had a great time making them and that all that counts.  These were so simple to create you can make you're next party extra special with MDS2 and a little time.

Fab Friday Challenge - Scentsational Season

Good evening friends!  Aidan had his Tae Kwon Do Tournament and Halloween sleepover on Saturday so we were on the go.  Alos, like all our friends on the East Coast we spent a good deal of this weekend getting ready for the approach of Hurricane Grace, and the "Frankenstorm."  One good thing from all this craziness is that I got an incredible urge to clean, not just bringing in all the furniture and pots from the patio but I also worked on several areas inside that had been bugging me.  At this point we've done just about all we can do and we just need to wait and see what comes.  I was able to grab a few minutes in the studio this afternoon and I made this card for the Fab Friday challenge.  The Scentsational Season stamp set was one of the first stamp sets I bought from the Holiday catalog (loved the matching framelits) but unfortunately it hasn't gotten much play time lately.  I started with a Gumball Green cardbase and added a layer of Whisper White that was run through the Big Shot with the snowflaking embossing folder.  I added some of the illuminate ink to the raised snowflakes with a sponge dauber (it's hard to tell from the picture) and then added rhinestones to the center of the snowflakes for a little sparkle.

I added a strip of Snow Festival DSP that was cut like a flag on the edges.  The main focal image is the candy canes, I stamped two in Raspberry Ripple ink and cut them out with the matching framelit before mounting them to a circle cut with the 2 1/2" circle punch (I did use dimensionals on one of the candy canes and tied a piece of Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine around both pieces).  The white circle is matted on a Baja Breeze circle and then a scallop circle from Primrose Petals cardstock and the Scallop Circle #2 die and Big Shot.  The final touch was the greeting, from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set and Gumball Green ink.

This was a fun challenge and a nice break from all the halloween projects I've been working on.  I also really like how elegant and fun this card is, this is definately an easily reproducible cards that you could make in multiples.

I just wanted to remind you about Stampin' Up!'s awesome sale for one day only, tomorrow, you can get 15% off almost all stamps sets, including the cookie stamps, and newly released single stamps.  Make sure to take advantage of this promotion to get those stamps that have been on your wish list for upcoming projects.

I thought I would leave you with a couple of pictures of my little Tae Kwon Do star, he was so excited to earn one 1st place and 2 second place trophies.

Take care and be safe!

Monstor Treat Holder

Good morning friends.  Aidan is hosting his first sleep over this weekend.  He wanted to have it on Halloween night but since Halloween is on a school night we told Aidan we could have a Halloween theme for the sleepover.  I've made several items for the party (yes we may be going a little overboard, but itsn't that the whole point of Halloween???)  Today I'm sharing one of the treats we made for all the sleepover guests.  I started with the fancy favor XL die and cut it out with Basic Black Cardstock.  Next I cut another piece of Black cardstock out, ran it through the Big Shot with the spider web embossing folder, and added Whisper White carft ink to the raised spider web.  I also punched a circle with 1 3/8" circle punch and added a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock behind the spider web so it looks like the moon.  I added dimensionals behind the spider web panel so it pops up.

I decided it would be funny to have a monster standing in front of the moon so I stamped the monster from the Googly Ghouls stamp set, colored him in with Lucky Limeade and Tangerine Tango Stampin' Write markers before cutting him out with Paper Snips.   I had to add a couple of the googly eyes and adhered him to the box with dimensionals.  Since I know there will be lots of sweet treats at the party I decided to fill this box with popcorn, hand sanitizer, and lolly pop and will be adding a Halloween pencil and eraser also.

These boxes turned out soo cute and I'm sure the guys will love them.  Make sure to check back, I'll be sharing several other projects from the big party.

Have a great day,

Googly Ghouls Candy Corn Greetings

Another weekend has come and gone.  We had a fabulous time and were on the go non-stop.  We ran in a 5K for Aidan's school on Saturday, Aidan and his friend ran in the Hero Mile and had a great time.  Today Aidan and Chris were at the farmer's market with the Cub Scouts selling popcorn and then Aidan and I ran over to the pumpkin patch and had a great time picking out the perfect pumpkins (he even rode in the cow train that he loves to do every year).  So I've been working frantically on getting all my Halloween projects done so I can move on to the Thanksgiving items and I still have lots to share.  Today I'm sharing our family Halloween card, yes I know I do send Halloween cards to our family to let them know we're thinking of them.  So I saw this card that Wendy Weixler made and I knew I just had to make it (See Wendy's creation HERE!) because it looks like candy corn which is one of my all time favorite Halloween treats.

This card starts with a Basic Grey cardbase and then I ran strips of Whisper White, Tangerine Tango, and Daffodil Delight cardstock through the Big Shot with the Spider Web and Chevron embossing folders.  I also used the Big Shot, Whisper White cardstock, and the Finishing Touches edgelit for the decorative strip along with a piece of 5/8" Basic Black Grosgrain Ribbon (retired).  I also added Naturals brads to the top right corner (some of Black, Grey, or Metallic brads).  Next I took a piece of Basic Black cardstock and embossed it with the Designer Frames Embossing Folder.  The next step I love, I took some Whisper White craft ink and a sponge dauber and lightly sponged the embossed frame so it really pops.  I stamped the little mummy from the Googly Ghouls stamp set and punched it out with the Wide Oval punch.  I added a googly eye (I love these guys) and popped the oval piece up with dimensionals.  The final touch was to stamp the greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set in Tangerine Tango ink, punched it out with the Decorative Label punch, and sponged the edge with Daffodil Delight ink.

These cards are so yummy I'm sure everyone will love them.

Before I leave you thought I would share a couple pictures from the pumpkin patch.

Aidan with one of the "perfect" pumpkins.  He's started posing for pictures and this elbow thing seems to be a favorite, he's too funny!

Aidan pulling the wagon full of pumpkins.

Aidan in the corn stalks.  He decided to run the corn maze this year and had fun searching for all the hidden fruit and vegetable pictures in the field.

Happy stamping,

Halloween Printer's Tray Remix: Take Three

Hooray, it's Friday!  I'm so excited for the arrival of the weekend since we have a lot of things planned, including running in a 5K for Aidan's school and getting family pictures taken.  Today I'm sharing the last project I made using the extra pieces from the halloween printer's tray kit.  This is a scrapbook page that will be perfect for this years halloween page (see I'm already ahead of the game and will just need to add pictures).  I started with Basic Gray for the base of the page and stamped bats in the top right corner and spider webs along the bottom using the Wicked Cool stamp set.  The black pieces are added pieces and are the mats for pictures.  All the other designed and solid pieces (including the super cute hanging bats) are from the tray kit.  The white tag was left blank for journaling.

In the top left corning I used all the little flag pieces to create a banner with a piece of Lucky Limeade baker's twine (bows were tied on each of the ends for a finishing touch).  The gray polka dot paper was from the kit and was scored at every 1/4" with the Simply Scored to create the lolly.  I added a More Mustard button to the center which mimicks an element from the printer's tray.

I stamped the cauldron from the Toxic Treats stamp set with Basic Black in on Very Vanilla cardstock, punched it out with the 1 3/8" circle punch and matted with an Old Olive scalloped circle (it's attached with dimensionals so it pops and it's easy to slide the picture under the element).  The numbers were cut with the Timeless Type die set (retired) and More Mustard cardstock.

The finishing touch was to add lots of rhinestones for the bat's eyes and in the center of all of the spider webs.  Now I have to confess something, when I finished the page it was missing a label and I struggled to decide what I wanted to use, in the end I used a die (non-Stampin' Up!) that had the perfect font for the "Spooky" label.  You know I use mostly SU! products but when you have something else that works in your stash you make it work.

I love how this page turned out it's so fun and I can't wait to add the pictures of my little pirate.

Take care and have a great weekend!

Halloween Printer's Tray Remix: Take Two

Good morning friends!  I'm glad you're back and I'm so happy we're halfway through the week.  Today I'm sharing the second project I made with extra pieces from the halloween printer's tray it.  Today it's another card.  I started with an Old Olive cardbase and ran it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka dot embossing folder.  Next I added a strip of Tangerine Tango chevron paper layered with the black striped piece.  I stamped the "Trick or Treat" words from the Toxic Treats stamp set in Old Olive ink.

I wrapped a piece of Tangerine Tango Scalloped Polka Dot ribbon around the striped piece and tied a knot.  Next I added the hanging spider with dimensionals and added two rhinestones for it's eyes.  This is another clean and simple card and I loved how quickly it came together by using the pieces of the kit.

I have one more project to share with you and I guarentee you'll love it so make sure to check back at the end of the week.

Happy Wednesday!

Halloween Printer's Tray Remix: Take One

Good morning friends!  It's the start to another crazy week but we had a great weekend which included stamping with friends which I love.  On Friday night I had a class where we made the the halloween printers tray that Stampin' Up! designed as a kit and is so fabulous.  Included in the kit were two sheets of the printed elements in case you needed extras.  After the class I still had my whole second sheet and I was trying to figure out what to do with it.  As a result I've created three different projects I'll be showing this week that use pieces from the kit as the main project elements.  This first card was a breeze to put together and I love the subway art piece that was large enough that it took up the entire card front.  All I did was wrap a piece of Basic Gray/Black striped satin ribbon around the middle and tied a knot before mounting the piece to a cardbase of Tangerine Tango.  I added a few rhinestones to the bats, spider, and frog so it really dazzles.

Check back soon for other projects that will provide inspiration for those extra kit pieces.

Enjoy,

Halloween Decor, MDS2 Style!

Happy Friday!  I have a lot of fun decorating for the holidays (all holidays) and especially enjoy making decor items for Halloween.  When I saw this new subway style Toxic Treats digital dowload for MDS2 I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  The great thing about this download was that all I needed to do was open up a new project with the file and send it to the printer, so easy.  With the new stamp coloring tool in MDS2 you could easily change the colors of any of the words in the image to match any color in your house.  Next I found a really cool frame that helped add to the antique nature of the decor.

I also decided to add a decorative accent to the corner.  I used the Toxic Treats stamp set and stamped the cauldren in Tangerine Tango and stamped over with the gate image in Basic Gray.  I punched the image out with the 2 3/8" scallop circle punch and matted with a Tangerine Tango circle punched out with the 2 1/2" circle punch.   Next I took a 2" strip of designer paper from the Houndstooth and Harringbone DSP pack and scored it every 1/4" inch and accordian folded it to create a lolly.  I decided to add several different types of ribbon in layers for lots of texture, I used Basic Black 3/8" taffeta, Basic Gray/Black Striped Satin, Tangerine Tango Scalloped Polka Dot, and Victoria 5/8" Crochet Trim ribbon at different lengths for perfect ribbon tails.  The final touch was some sparkly rhinestones.

This project turned out just like I pictured and works perfect with some of my other decorations.  You've got to try making hybrid projects with MDS2 which will make easy work for any project you have!

Enjoy!

Elegant Gift Tags, full of Sparkle

Good morning friends!  Fall has definately arrived in Northern Virigina, the leaves are starting to turn and it's definately getting cooler.  I love this time of year but it's also a reminder that the holidays are fast approaching.  Recently I saw a stunning gift tag made by Monica Weaver and knew I need to make some for my Holiday gifts.  This first version is pretty much the same as Monica's but changes the center decoration, see Monica's creation here.  I started with a piece of Brushed Gold cardstock and ran it through the Big Shot with the Two Tags Die and then embossed it with the Lacy Brocade embossing folder.  Then I sponged some Crumb Cake ink on the tag to add some dimension before wrapping a piece of Cherry Cobbler 3 1/2" Scalloped Tulle Ribbon.  Next I cut out two snowflakes with the Snow Flurry Bigz Die and Champagne Shimmer paper.  I flattened a bottle top with the Big Shot (it's pretty cool to see that) and then stamped the words from the Merry Medley stamp set in Cherry Cobbler (cut it out with the 3/4" circle punch) and stamped the decorative circle with gold ink (retired) and punched it out with the 1" circle punch.  The final touch was to add a clear epoxy disc to the top so it's all glossy and protect it, perfect!

Here's a close up of the gift tag with the bottlecap and Merry Medley decorative center.

I had so much fun with these tags that I decided to make some with silver and everythings the same except I used Silver Glimmer Paper for the snowflakes, Marina Mist and Pretty in Pink 1 1/4" stripped grosgrain ribbon (retired) and silver ink (retired) for the decorative detail.

Another close up of the gift tag with the bottlecap and Merry Medley decorative center, this time with the Marina Mist and Silver version.

I love how these tags turned out and they will great not only on gifts but even as a decoration on the Christmas tree after the presents have been opened.  Now's the perfect time to start making holiday tags or other projects you have in mind before things get even more crazier and hectic.  I can help you design any projects you have in mind and make sure you have all the necessary supplies, just let me know.

Happy stamping,

Diana
