Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge #681: Rolling Waves

Good morning!

When it's really hot I find it's the perfect time to head to the studio (mine's in the basement so it's nice and cool) so I'm back to play along with this weeks Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge.  Of course I decided to letter the summer heat and vibes influence me on this weeks card along with some of the great products in July's Online Exclusives release.

This card starts with Pool Party for the card base and I added a piece of Beautiful Ordinary Life Designer Series Paper that's matted with Basic Black cardstock.  I used different patterns from the same paper pack for the three flags along the bottom and wrapped a piece of Black 3/8" Iridescent Ribbon around the top.

For the main image I took a piece of Basic White cardstock and matted with Basic Black before stamping the greeting from the Rolling Waves stamp set on the bottom in Basic Black ink (that's the only stamping on this card!).  The Summer Happiness Washi tape is a sleeper hit in my opinion, the images on the tape match up with the Summer Happiness dies so I just added the washi tape to a piece of Basic White cardstock and then cut out a whole bunch of pieces (I actually have a little stack of extras for future projects).  I did use dimensionals to pop up the flip flops and flower.  The final touch was to add some embellishments from the Array of Dots as the perfect finishing touch.

This card is so bright and cheery, perfect for a summer birthday!  Make sure to check out the other cards the design team is sharing and we would love for you to play along and share what you create.

Fab Friday Sketch Challenge #FabFri137: Confetti Celebration

Good morning!  This time of year is full of celebrations, between graduation, start of summer, birthdays, etc. we seem to be celebrating a lot.  So it was that theme of celebrating that I embraced for this weeks Fab Friday sketch challenge and make this quick and easy card!

I started with Lemon Lime Twist cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of the Tutti-Frutti Designer Series Paper (retiring), love this watermelon print.

For the greeting I used the Confetti Celebration stamp set (retiring) and stamped the greeting in Basic Black ink on Peekaboo Peach cardstock (retiring In Color) and then added a piece of Basic Black cardstock that was punched with the Decorative Ribbon Border Punch for a fun element.

To finish off the card I used the Balloon Bouquet Punch to punch out a small balloon with another pattern from the same DSP pack.  I used a tied a piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine around the bottom of the balloon and then attached the balloon to the cardfront with a dimensional so the balloon looks like it's floating away.

This card is super easy but perfect to help celebrate whatever is special today and it doesn't take a lot of tools or special techniques for so any level of crafter can enjoy making it.  Make sure you have this designer series paper because even though it's retiring next week it has lots of fabulous prints you will want to use all summer long.

Can You Case it? Design Team - Sketch Challenge CYCI #74

Happy Sunday!  So we survived the BBQ and it was a lot of fun, now the recovery begins.  Looking forward to a little rest and stamping with the ladies this afternoon (there’s something about retreating to the cool studio on hot humid days that feels great!!)  Today it’s time for another edition of the Can You Case It? weekly challenge.  This week we’re changing things up and giving a theme and letting you see where it takes you, in this case SUMMER!!! I’ll admit, when I first saw this challenge I was very nervous since we don’t have any current summer themed sets that I own (in the past we’ve had some uber-cute sets that I still have in my stash but I’m resisting).  Instead I started to think about all the great things about summer and came up with this, out of the box idea.

I started with Tempting Turquoise cardstock for the cardbase and then added a layer of Whisper White cardstock.  On this layer I did lots of stamping using the Work of Art stamp set.  I stamped the sand along the bottom using both Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake ink and stamped off on some of the images to get different levels of color.  I did the same thing for the sun using Hello Honey, Tangelo Twist, and So Saffron ink (I used my Stampin’ Write Markers to only ink part of the long narrow image for the sunbeams so they fit the page better).
I always think of ice cream for the summer so I took a small piece of Whisper White cardstock, used the Project Life Corner Rounder Punch on three of the corners and the 1 ¼” Scallop Circle Punch on the last corner to look like a bites been taken out of the tasty treat.  Then I used the larger “swoosh” stamp and stamped using Pacific Point, Tempting Turquoise, and Real Red ink (also stamping off on the Real Red for a lighter top look).
The goals was to make this look like the classic ice cream treat (but realized later I had the white and red in the wrong order, oops!!)  I used a piece of Soft Suede cardstock and the Word Window Punch to make the stick and attached the frozen treat to the card with dimensionals.

The greeting is from the Celebrate Today stamp set and was stamped in Real Red Ink.  The final touch was to add some “birds” to the skyline and since I couldn’t find any suitably sized stamps I just drew simple ones in with a marker.

What do you think?  It’s a little out of the box for my usual style but it definitely conveys summer so I say, success.  I love the wide range of cards the other design team members are sharing so go check them out and then come play along for more summertime fun!
