SSINKspiration CASE the Designer: Rustic Birthday Greetings

Happy Friday!  It's shaping up to be another wonderful weekend, we're getting a break from the heat, my kiddo is coming home, and I got a big box of holiday catalog preorder goodies that are calling my name (I'm hoping for some quality time in the studio this weekend).  Before all the weekend fun gets started, the SSINKspiration designers are playing around and it's time to CASE the designer again, this month it's Nichole Loe and I love so many of her projects that it was tough to pick what I wanted to case and then I found this masculine goodie, here's a link to her project.  I decided to change things up and make this a card with no actual stamping but you get the same feel.

I started with Crumb Cake cardstock for the cardbase and then added a layer of Emerald Envy Cardstock as a mat for the cardfront.  The cardfront is where all the fun is, I started with a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and embossed it with the Big Shot and new Pinewood Planks Dynamic Embossing Folder and then I sponged all over with Soft Suede Ink to really bring out the texture and pattern in the embossed image.

Next I used the Layering Ovals Framelits to cut out an oval in Crumb Cake cardstock and then a frame for the oval using two different sized ovals and a Gold Foil Sheet.  While I liked the popped up nature of Nichole's card I decided to keep mine a little flatter so it's easily mailed but still has the same effect.  The final touch was to cut out the birthday greeting using some Emerald Envy cardstock and the Happy Birthday Thinlits die and attached it using the Fine Tip Glue pen.

I really love how dramatic this card is and while not using a ton of products and colors, nice and elegant.  I can definitely see myself making this again and it may have to be one of the projects in an upcoming card class, thanks Nichole for the inspiration.  Make sure to check out the other projects the design team as created which were inspired by Nichole.

  1. Diana, this is a great card! My family owned a lumber company for years, so the Pinewood Planks background reminds me of the beautiful pine paneling it produced. Thanks for sharing!

  2. What a pretty card, Diana! The Emerald Envy stands out so well against the wood background! Great interpretation of Nichole's card!
