Wonderful Mother: Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge

Good evening!  What a fabulous weekend.  I was able to attend Stampin' Up's regional seminar in Baltimore on Saturday and it was so fun to see my favorite stamping friends, swap, and be inspired by lots of creative techniques and ideas, awesome!  Then today I completed by first 10K race, and the best part was I finished!!!  So with everything going on, and spending some quality family time I actually only made it down to my studio for about 20 minutes the whole weekend, but it was long enough for me to make a card for this weeks Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge.  This sketch is so fun since you can make it as simple or as detailed as you want.  I choose to use the Tea for Two designer series paper as my focal panels and since there is so much detail in the paper itself I kept the stamping really simple. 

 

The cardbase is So Saffron and I added a Crumb Cake panel that was embossed with the Big Shot and the Hexagon embossing folder.  Next I sponged all over the cardstock with Crumb Cake ink so the detail really pops off the page.  I cut three panels from the DSP and then matted each of them on Bashful Blue cardstock before cutting the flag tails on the bottom. 

The greeting is from the Wonderful Mother stamp set and is such a perfect little stamp set for upcoming Mother's Day projects as well as birthdays!  The greeting is stamped in Early Espresso ink and punched out with the large oval punch before being sponged with Crumb Cake ink. This piece is then matted on a piece of Lucky Limeade cardstock punched with the decorative label punch and once again, sponged with Crumb Cake ink before being adhered to the card with dimensionals.  The final touch was to add some Pretty in Pink 1/4" stitched grosgrain ribbon to the card, including a simple bow that has a small button brad from the Vintage Trinkets.

 

While this card is nice and simple it's so soft and lovely, I love it!  I'm sure you can have a lot of fun with this sketch challenge, give it a try.

Baltimore Regional 2013 Swap #2

I promised you another card and I'm here to deliver.  This card is all about purple, specifically Pale Plum and Wisteria Wonder, I've never used these colors together but they work and I'm glad that both of these colors will be remaining as part of the color refresh.  I started by taking a piece of Wisteria Wonder cardstock and running it through the Big Shot with the Framed Tulip embossing folder.  Next I used the Lacy and Lovely stamp set and randomly stamped the different doily images with the two colors of ink.  I also added a strip of Wisteria Wonder DSP from the 2011-2013 In Color Designer Series Paper stack along with some Wisteria Wonder Ruffled Ribbon.

 

I love the text of the greeting, and guess what, it's in the same stamp set so you're all ready to create with just one stamp set.  I punched the greeting out with the Oval punch and then matted it with a Pale Plum piece that was punched out with the Scalloped oval punch.

 

I love how soft and feminine this monochromatic card is and you could definitely change it up by just changing the colors and using the same stamps and layout so it's definitely flexible.

Baltimore Regional 2013 Swap #1

 Happy Saturday!  I'm so excited today is Stampin' Up!'s regional conference in Baltimore and I'm currently on the road heading up to the event with some friends.  A big part of any Stampin' Up! event is card swapping where you make several of the same card and then swap them with other people so you get lots of new ideas and techniques, it's so fun to see how people can take the same items and create things so uniquely different.  I've scheduled a two posts today to share with you two of the cards I'll be sharing today.  This first card is for a flower themed swap and uses the Betsy's Blossoms and Wacky Wishes stamp set.  This card is pretty straight forward.  I used the Floral District designer series paper and actually stamped the small blossoms in Calypso Coral ink directly on the DSP to add some additional detail.

 

For the flower I used the circle stamp image and then used the flower petal punch and punched it out twice and offset to add dimension to the flower.  I also used a 7/8" scallop circle punch to punch the inner layer and then added an In Color designer printed brad for the center.  A piece of Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon adds some additional texture to the card.

Pure Gumption: Retro Sketches Challenge

We're on the downward slope of the week and I can see the weekend quickly approaching.  I have a card for another new sketch challenge to share with you today.  Today's card uses the Retro Sketches sketch challenge and I decided to make a graduation card, school graduations will be here before you know it.  This card uses Pool Party for the cardbase and then I added a piece of Basic Black that I ran through the Big Shot with the Lacy Brocade embossing folder before wrapping a piece of Whisper White 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon around the layer.   

Next I added a piece of designer series paper from the 2011-2013 In Color DSP stack (I definitely don't use these DSP stacks enough).  Next I stamped the greeting from the Pure Gumption stamp set with Basic Black ink and then matted on Pool Party cardstock and attached with dimensionals.  The graduation cap is from the same stamp set and it's embossed with Pool Party embossing powder (this stuff is so fun and fresh) and punched it out with the 1 3/8" circle punch.  I stacked two dimensionals to pop up the circle over the greeting.  The final touch was to add a little bling with a strip of rhinestones along the bottom (I'm usually afraid to use these rhinestone strips but I think they add just the right amount of sparkle to this card).

I love the Basic Black, Whisper White, and Pool Party color combination but you could easily make this card with any colors, especially to highlight your special graduates school colors.

By the Tide: Paper Craft Crew Challenge

Good evening friends!  I'm loving the weather here this week, I'm thinking that we've officially said goodbye to winter (yeah!) and we may be bypassing spring.  This week I decided to make a card for this weeks Paper Craft Crew challenge and wanted to embrace the nice, bright colors that go along with spring.  For this card I used the By the Tide stamp set and the Epic Day designer series paper that's part of the This and That product suite, which is super fun.  My cardbase is Crumb Cake and I added two pieces of the designer series paper matted with Pool Party cardstock and wrapped Calypso Coral Baker's Twine around both panels before making a bow.  I also added three small pearls in the bottom left corner.

For the main stamped image I started with a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock and stamped with the text stamp and Crumb Cake ink (I stamped off first to make the text softer).  Next I stamped the grass image with Gumball Green ink and again stamped off first.  Next I stamped the fish on Pool Party cardstock with Sahara Sand ink before cutting it out with Paper Snips and using dimensionals to pop him up.  The final touch was to stamp the greeting from the Wishes Your Way stamp set and used the decorative label punch to cut it out.

 

This card is so soft and I love all the different elements.  This is another fun sketch that you'll definitely want to give a try.

Create with Connie and Mary Color Challenge: Animal Talk

Another week has arrived.  I spent the past weekend at a scrapbooking retreat and while I love these get aways for the girl time, relaxation, and uninterrupted creativity, I'm always exhausted when I get home and I'm still trying to catch up.  In addition to getting lots of scrapbook pages and other projects done during these retreats I always take this opportunity to use some of the stamp sets in the catalog that I don't own (it may be hard to believe but I don't own everything in the catalog!)  For this weeks Create with Connie and Mary color challenge I decided to use the Animal Talk stamp set.  This stamp set has such cute images.  The colors we were given to work with were Real Red, Calypso Coral, and Island Indigo, and while this is not a combination I would normally use it definitely works together.  The cardbase is Calypso Coral and I added a Whisper White layer that I stamped the greeting on with Real Red ink.  For the stamped image I used Island Indigo ink and then colored the dog in with my blender pen and Calypso Coral ink pad, along with Stampin' Write markers to highlight the dogs spot and mouth.  This image was cut out with the 2 1/2" circle punch and then I matted on a scalloped circle cut from Real Red cardstock and the Perfect Pennants Bigz L die and Big Shot.

 

For the flags I used designer series paper from the 2011-2013 In Color DSP stack as well as the Polka Dot Parade DSP package.  The final touch was to add some Calypso Coral Baker's Twine wrapped around the cardfront several times and then I tied a bow around all the layers of Baker's Twine. 

 

This card is so cute and I know one little boy (Aidan) who will love the image on this card.  This stamp set was so fun that while at the retreat I made two other cards with different images that I'll be sharing with you soon, you'll love this stamp set as well!

April Stylin' Stampin' Blog Hop: All About Weddings and Anniversaries

 

It's blog hop time, which is always so fun and this month we're focusing on weddings and anniversaries.  Spring is one of the busiest times for weddings so this will provide you lots of great ideas for your upcoming events.  If you've been following along the hop you've just come from Bree's blog, isn't her work awesome!!  Don't worry, if you're just starting here you'll be able to follow the hop all the way around to see all the wonderful creations.

 

This card has a Pool Party cardbase and then I added a layer of First Edition Speciality DSP.  On this piece is stamped with the splatter image from the My Paper Pumpkin Welcome kit with Primrose Petals ink.  I also added a piece of Delicate Details Lace Tape.  I used it as a stencil and sponged around it with Pool Party ink so it adds a nice subtle image.  The next layer is a piece of More Amore Speciality DSP and then Victoria Lace Trim Ribbon, and Pool Party Ruffled Ribbon that was scrunched up using sticky strip to adhere the ribbon to the card.

For the main focal image, I used one of the Real Red laser cut hearts from the More Amore Speciality DSP and then a large heart cut from the silver glimmer paper cut with the Big Shot and the Hearts Collection Framelits.  The greeting is from the Word Play stamp set and is stamped with Real Red ink before being punched out with the Large Oval Punch.  I also sponged around the edges with Pool Party ink.  This piece is matted with a piece of Crumb Cake that was punched out with the Decorative Label Punch.  To add a little "bling" I added a rhinestone to the sparkle part of the image.  Now I have to admit, I have a love affair with dimensionals and due to all the layers of ribbon and paper I used several dimensionals to attached the heart and greeting and actually stacked some of them up so that it really "pops" off the cardfront.

 

This card is so full of detail and texture it will sure to WOW anyone who receives it!

Wonderful Mother: Paper Player's Challenge

Good evening!  We’ve made it half way through the week and I’m excited since this is a short week for me, I’m heading out to a scrapbooking retreat on Friday and looking forward to three blissful days of uninterrupted crafting and creativity (LOVE IT!!!)  Today I’m sharing the card I made for this weeks Paper Player’s challenge.  This is one crazy challenge, it’s tic-tac-toe so there are all these squares and you pick three in a row to serve as the basis of your creation, I chose 1) ribbon, 2) pink and green; and 3) Mother’s Day.  This is perfect since Mother’s Day is just around the corner and I’ll definitely be needing cards.  This card is lots of fun and easy due to the Big Shot, framelits and embossing folders.  The cardbase is Wild Wasabi and I added a strip of Pretty in Pink Designer Series paper and a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  Now the Whisper White piece is scalloped along the bottom with the Large Scallop Edgelits and then embossed with the Delicate Designs folder (very important to do it in that order, otherwise when you use the framelits it flattens your embossing, trust me!)  Then I added a piece of Wild Wasabi ¼” Stiched Grosgrain Ribbon and tied a knot with pieces of the Wild Wasabi and Pretty in Pink ¼” Stiched Grosgrain Ribbon.

For the accent piece I cut out another piece of Whisper White with the Big Shot and Labels Collection Framelits, sponged around the edge with Pretty in Pink ink and then stamped the greeting from the Wonderful Mother stamp set (this is an awesome set for Mother’s Day!!!!).  The finishing touch was to add a flower that I stamped with the Secret Garden stamp set and cut out with the matching Secret Garden Framelits.  I used a blender pen to color in the flower to it was softer than the stamped outline and then added lots of tiny pearls to the center.

I love how soft and lovely this card is.  The great thing is with this stamp set you could easily change it for birthdays by just changing the lower words which are separate stamps, so fun.  Hope you enjoyed this weeks card and it’s definitely time to start thinking about how to honor the special women in your lives!

Fab Friday Sketch Challenge: Pinwheel Fun

Good morning friends and welcome to April, can't believe we're already a quarter of the way through 2013!  This morning I wanted to share my card for this weeks Fab Friday sketch challenge.  I've been making several vintage type cards lately so I decided I wanted to do something different, this time bright, cheery, and clean.  The card has a Daffodil Delight cardbase which is layered with Whisper White and Marina Mist patterned paper from the Polka Dot Parade DSP pack.  The stamped layer uses the Sweets for the Sweet stamp set and the pinwheels are stamped in Daffodil Delight and Real Red before being layered on a piece of Daffodil Delight.  The little red strip along the bottom is actually a punched piece that uses the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch.   

The flag greeting is from the Delightful Dozen stamp set and I sponged along the edges with Daffodil Delight Ink.  The accent on this card is the small pinwheel that I made from a piece of Real Red Polka Dot DSP from the same Polka Dot Parade DSP pack.  I also used the Pinwheel Sizzlit S die and the Big Shot so it's all cut out with the little holes and slits at once.  I just used a Daffodil Delight brad from the Brights Brad pack for the center.  Glue dots made attaching the pinwheel to the card a breeze.

 

This card is so fun and you could definitely use this sketch for so many different things.  Make your own creation and share it on the Fab Friday sketch blog, it's lots of fun.

Happy Easter, Bunny Style!

Good evening and Happy Easter!  I hope you are all enjoying the fabulous weekend (yesterdays weather was AWESOME) and we're spending lots of quality family time today enjoying the holiday.  I wanted to share with you another one of the Easter cards I made for family, once again using the Ears to You stamp set (these bunnies really are the cutest).  This card was CASED from a card shared by the fabulous Mary Fish, check her card out HERE.  I didn't really change too much on the card since I loved it just the way it was, just changed the ribbon and eliminated some of the pearls. 

 

In addition to the single stamp this card also shows off the Poetry Prints DSP stack as well as the Oval Collection Framelits and Finishing Touches Edgelits, along with the Big Shot.  This card is so stunning and I love the neutral, Crumb Cake cardbase.

 

This single stamp was set to expire today however Stampin' Up! announced on Friday that they're extending the purchase period of the current 10 single stamps to July 31, 2013 (LOVE IT!) so you still have time to add this, and others to your collection.

Wacky Easter Wishes

We've arrived at the end of the week, whoo hoo!  This is a big weekend coming up, not only is it Easter on Sunday, but it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm one of those people who love to celebrate their birthday who believe it should be celebrated for the whole month, Chris just laughs but humors me, love him!  The weather's also supposed to be warming up this weekend, which is perfect as I've ready to defrost and enjoy some time outside.  Today I'm sharing one of the Easter cards I made for our family (yes I am one of those people who celebrates every holiday and believes in sending cards to loved ones so they know we're thinking of them).

 

This card is pretty easy and Uses the Hexagon Embossing folder (I flipped the paper to get the debossed side for a different effect.  I also used the Decorative Frames embossing folders for the greeting frame and cut it out with my Paper Snips.  The greeting is from the Wacky Wishes stamp set and I used Stampin' Write markers to create the rainbow effect with the letters.  The bunny is from the Ears to You single stamp and I stamped them in Early Espresso ink and cut out with Paper Snips, dimensionals help make him pop. 

 

The designer series paper is from the Sunshine and Sprinkles DSP package and I used the totally fabulous Melon Mambo 3/8" Striped Organdy Ribbon, you have to try this ribbon out, it comes in three colors and it's AWESOME!  This card is so cute and super quick to make, which is great for multiples.

All About Parker's Prints DSP

Happy Wednesday!  We're having a fun relaxing week for spring break, Aidan's going to Tae Kwon Do camp (which he loves) while we're at work and we're enjoying having our evenings free before all the craziness of baseball, cub scouts, etc. starts up again this spring.  Today I'm dropping by to share my card for this weeks Paper Players challenge.  This is a very versatile sketch and can be used for so many things, I decided to use to to show off several of the papers of the Parker's Print's Designer Series Paper package.  I took a class this past summer at our annual convention about mixing patterns and while I don't do it very often it was fun to work with the different patterns.  Other than the DSP I used the Woodgrain Embossing folder and the Big Shot to emboss the Sahara Sand layer, Scallop Trim Border Punch along the right edge, Naturals Buttons with Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine, and the greeting is from the Loving Thoughts stamp set.

This was the sketch layout we were given to work with.  I had so much fun playing with all the different textures and elements and really like how they work together.  The Parker's Print's DSP is in the Spring catalog so you'll definitely want to make sure to add this to your crafting supplies since these patterns on so on trend right now and make it easy to make more masculine cards which we all seem to struggle with at times.

From the Heart: Fab Friday Sketch Challenge

I was so excited last night, instead of falling asleep when I was cuddling with Aidan, as I have been, I was wide awake and headed down to the studio and was able to create several fun projects before heading to bed.  Up to this point I haven't been able to make a card for this weeks Fab Friday sketch challenge and really wanted to try out this weeks color sketch.  I'll admit that these are not colors I normally use together so I struggled some but used the Tea for Two designer series paper as inspiration as it used the colors in this print.  I want to start this off by saying I wanted to mute all these colors so every single layer of cardstock on this card was sponged with Sahara Sand ink, really liked how this muted the colors.

The main greeting uses the From the Heart stamp set.  This is such a great stamp set for it's unique sayings that are AWESOME!  After coloring the image with Stampin' Write markers and stamping I stamped the "enjoying" again on a scrap of Sahara Sand and then cut it out with Paper Snips and folded to create flags on each end.  The pink Pirouette layer was cut with the Big Shot and the Adorning Accents edgelits and then embossed with the coordinating Adorning Accents embossing folder before I added several pieces of pearl strands to follow the same lines (it looks like a pearl necklace and so pretty).  The final touch was to add a piece of Victorian Lace trim ribbon.  I used dimensionals to attached the entire stamped piece to the card so it pops.

 

Now check out the colors we were provided as part of the challenge.  This card turned out really elegant and so pretty, LOVE IT!  It's also fairly flat so it's mailable which is always a bonus.  There's still time to play along with the challenge so go ahead and make your project and share it on the challenge blog site, I will warn you once you start you won't want to stop these challenges it really helps stretch your creativity!

You Are My Sunshine Create with Connie & Mary Color Challenge

Good evening friends!  The snow is coming down this evening, really, it's March 24!  While I love the snow I'm definitely ready for spring.  So I saw this great color challenge on the Create with Connie & Mary website and I thought it was perfect for a cheery card to counter the snow.  This card uses the You Are My Sunshine single stamp (love the single stamps for special greetings at a great deal!)  The card base is Not Quite Navy and then I added a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I embossed with the Big Shot and the Cloudy Day embossing folder, then I lightly sponged around the clouds with Marina Mist ink.  Next I added a piece of Marina Mist cardstock and trimmed the edge with the Adorning Accents Edgelits and the Big Shot.  This was layered with a piece of Daffodil Delight Designer Paper and a piece of Whisper White 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon.

For the main stamped image I stamped the greeting, You Are My Sunshine, with Not Quite Navy Ink and sponged around the edge with Marina Mist ink.  Then I stamped the sunshine part of the greeting with Daffodil Delight ink, punched it out with the 3/4" circle punch and popped it up with a dimensional before adding a Rhinestone to the center for it really sparkles.  This piece was matted on a piece of Daffodil Delight and Marina Mist cardstock.  This whole piece was attached with dimensionals to the card for additional dimension.

Now this is the color challenge provided.  These are such fun and cheery colors that can be used for so many different projects.  This is another color combination you'll want to save in your idea folder for future projects.  This card turned out awesome and will definitely brighten up someones day, love it!!!!

Elegant Birthday Greetings, Feeling Sentimental

Another Friday has arrived, whoo hoo!  I'm definitely looking forward to some down time this weekend, plus my birthday weekend officially begins on Sunday and I can't wait.  Early this week I we were celebrating a friends birthday and I enjoy making her pretty cards, but I had to wait to share until she received it.  This card uses the Tea for Two Designer Series Paper for the color pallet along with the Feeling Sentimental stamp set (today is the last day to get this stamp set for FREE) along with the Oh, Hello stamp set for the chevron oval. 

 

I used the coordinating Ovals Collection framelits and the Big Shot to cut out the oval as well as the Needlepoint Border embossing folders (can't believe this is my first time using it, too cute!  I added a strip of First Edition Speciality DSP that was punched out with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch as well as some Lucky Limeade Ruffled Ribbon.  The final touch was to add one of the flowers from the Floral Trim (I used Pool Party ink and a sponge dauber, along with the Island Indigo Stampin' Write Marker to add color and dimension to the flower (so soft and pretty).

 

This card was so fun and turned out so soft and cheery, perfect for birthday greetings and I'm sure my friend loved it!  I'm really hoping that we get some spring weather so we can start enjoying time outside.  I hope you enjoy and get some time relaxing and being creative this weekend.
