SSINKspiration Blog Hop: Mystery Bog Hop

Good morning!  With the end of summer vacation we’re settling into the school/work routine that includes lots of activities, scouts, baseball, TKD, etc. that keep up on the go and enjoying every moment.  This also means I’m getting a little more regular crafting time in the studio that is oh so welcome and needed (for my sanity!!)  Today over on the Stylin’ Stampin’ INKspiration blog it’s time for our monthly blog hop and this month’s theme is mystery supply challenge.  We’ve done these in the past and boy are they fun.  We each send another team member three items (stamped images, designer series paper, ribbon, accessories, etc.) and then we have use those three items to make a project.  I have to say this month I was stumped when I got my goodies from Darcy.  She sent me some accessories from the holiday catalog and then stamped images from the Sitting There stamp set, including a little cat and dog, that really made me think (and I had to be careful since I don’t have this stamp set I couldn’t retry if I messed up, which I did my poor dog just not workout).

I started with Crumb Cake cardstock for the cardbase and then added a Basic Black mat behind the piece of Designer Series Paper from the Warmth and Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack (I like how there are lots of patterns in the pack that aren’t strictly holiday prints and can be used year round).  I also added the small strip along the middle (this happens to be the print on the reverse of the star pattern piece) and tied a couple pieces of Gold Twine from the Baker’s Twine Trio Pack (also in the holiday catalog) and then tied a bow.

For the stamped images (which were already provided I colored them in using Stampin’ Write Markers.  Full strength markers were too strong for my cat (learned that on the dog image) so I used a Blender Pen to color her in to make it lighter and then added several different layers of slightly darker colors to add some texture.  I cut out both the basket and cat and attached them to a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock that I cut out with the Big Shot and 2” Circle Punch.  The cat was attached with a dimensional so she looks like she’s sitting in the basket.  I cut a mat for the image using Basic Black cardstock, the Big Shot and Layering Circles Framelits and embossed it with the Elegant Dots Embossing Folder for some texture.

The greeting is from the Jar of Love stamp set and stamped the greeting with Real Red ink on Very Vanilla cardstock before cutting it out with the Layering Ovals Framelits.  I did sponge around the edge with both Crumb Cake and Basic Black ink for a fun effect before attaching it with dimensionals.

So what do you think? I enjoyed using a mixture of Holiday and Annual catalog items to show the versatility of the products and thinking outside of the box and I had fun with the coloring, but I definitely need to work more at that.  I still think this would be well received by a friend when I want to let them know I’m thinking of them, don’t you?

SSINKspiration Mystery Challenge #SSINKMC31: Perfect Pairings

Good morning and happy Monday!  We had a great weekend that started out busy and ended nice and relaxing.  The guys helped get my birthday week festivities started by taking me shopping and to dinner on Friday since our weekend was full.  I had birthday's on my mind when I started working on today's card for the SSINKspiration blog for the mystery challenge.  I have to admit this challenge really stumped me but I was able to used items 2, 3, 4, and 5 to create this simple looking one layer card that used lots of different stamps to build the look of texture.

My card is made using Whisper White Thick cardstock (this is really great for cardbases).  I Decided to use blues for my color scheme and started by stamped the splatter using the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and Bermuda Bay ink but stamped off twice before stamping so it was lighter.  Next I used the Timeless Textures stamp set and stamped the floral image several times using Bermuda Bay (stamped off once) and Pool Party ink (stamped off once).  I also stamped the grid stamp from the same stamp set using Pool Party ink (at full strength). 

The greeting is from the Perfect Pairings stamp set (remember this is a Sale-a-bration FREEBIE and is only available through the end of the month so if you don't already have this set place your order soon.  I embossed it using Versamark ink and Pool Party Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool.  Next I took a sponge dauber and rubbed around the greeting using Bermuda Bay ink for emboss resist.  Since I only have one layer of cardstock I decided to add an embellishment so I took a Bermuda Bay button from the Brights Designer Buttons package and tied a bow using three strands of baker's twine, both Whisper White and Bermuda Bay baker's twine).

It was fun to see how many different shades of blue I could add to this card to help add dimension since I couldn't add paper layers.  The other designers are sharing their own takes on this challenge so go check them out and we would love for you to play along with us.

SSINKspiration November Blog Hop: Mystery Supply Challenge

Good morning!  We’re continuing our month of gratitude projects but since it’s the second Thursday of the month it’s time this months SSINKspiration blog hop and we have a fun one this time.  We decided to play another addition of Mystery Supply Challenge where we all sent each other 3 supply items (stamped image, DSP, ribbon, etc.) and the recipient needs to create a project using all three times.  I really have fun with these, not only seeing what others create with my package but challenging me with the basket I receive.  This month Darcy provided my mystery supplies and I’ll admit she didn’t include a greeting so I was happy I could use my card for the gratitude challenge (killing two birds, one stone).

I’ll start with a picture of the three items I received.  It was fun to receive this butterfly image from the Watercolor Wings stamp set, I don’t have this set and it really does make a pretty image and quite large.  It also included a piece of DSP from the Go Wild Designer Series Paper Stack and some Cherry Cobbler Thick Baker’s Twine.

 

 

 

 

 

I started with Wild Wasabi cardstock for the cardbase (I guessed that was one of the green’s) and then added the and then added the Go Wild Designer Series Paper for a great background and lots of contrast.  Since the butterfly is so large I knew I didn’t have enough room for the greeting to be a separate piece so I decided to heat emboss it directly onto the DSP using the Heat Tool and Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder (this also helped tie in the baker’s twine that was part of the mystery basket.  The greeting itself is from a past Paper Pumpkin kit (love how you get exclusive stamps in these kits that you can use long after the kit supplies are exhausted).

Next I took a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and embossed it with the Big Shot and the Arrows Embossing Folder (I did also sponge it with Crumb Cake ink).  I also tucked half of a Paper Doily behind the Crumb Cake piece for a background to the butterfly and wrapped the Cherry Cobbler Extra Thick Baker’s Twine around the Crumb Cake piece.  I wanted the butterfly to have some dimension so I folded the wings up and added a string of rhinestones to the center for the body before attaching it to the card front with liquid glue (I added glue just along the center of the body so the wings could move).

I had fun playing with the basket items and wouldn’t normally have thought of combining the butterfly with the bold DSP but it really works, thanks Darcy for helping me think outside my usual comfort zone!

SSINKspiration Mystery Supply Challenge: Acorny Thank You

Good morning!  We had a busy and fun weekend, a highlight of which was the Witching Décor Hat class on Saturday, it was a great time and the ladies did a great job on their projects (it’s always more fun crafting with friends)!  Today over on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspirationblog it’s the second addition of our Mystery Basket Challenge, it was so fun last month.  As a reminder, this is kind of like “Chopped”, where each designer that wanted to participate signed up and we were randomly assigned another designer and we mailed the designer 3 items, could be a stamped image, DSP, ribbon, etc. and incorporating those three items the designer needs to complete a project.  Breelin Renwick was the designer who mailed me my mystery basket and I was so excited when I saw my mystery supplies since I don’t have the Acorny Thank You set in the Holiday catalog so it was fun to play with its images. 

I started with Mint Macaroon cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Soft Suede cardstock that I embossed with the Big Shot and the Woodland Embossing Folder. This is such a fun embossing folder and I used Soft Suede ink to sponge all over the embossing to help highlight the trees.  Next I took a piece of Calypso Coral Cardstock and used the Big Shot and Circle Collection Framelits to cut out a circle and then embossed it with the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder (flipped it so the debossed image was showing).  I also used the Circle Framelits to cut out a circle of the Mint Macaroon cardstock from the 2015-2017 In Color Designer Series Paper.  Behind the DSP circle I added several loops of the Gold Metallic Thread.

The acorn is from the Acorny Thank You stamp set and was stamped in Early Espresso ink before being punched out with the matching Acorn Punch.  I love that Bree made the top of the acorn with gold glimmer paper (I used to always use glimmer paper to the top of the acorn from our previous Big Shot Die so it suits me to a tee!!)  The banner greeting is from the same stamp set and was stamped in Calypso Coral ink.

My friends are such enabler’s there are sets I don’t buy right away and then I see all the great projects and ideas and I HAVE to have those items,  I don’t know how long I’ll be able to hold out before getting this set, it’s too cute and super easy!  You’ll definitely want to stop by and check out the other creations the designers came up with using their mystery supplies.
