Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Color Challenge SSINKCC42: Hey Chick

Happy Monday!  I had a fun weekend and was on the go quite a bit so I didn't have loads of time in the studio but did escape for a little bit to have fun and play.

The start of a new month always brings new challenges over on the SSINKspiration blog that are always so much fun, today is the color challenge.  I'll admit I was a little stumped for a layout so I decided to combine this with the Hand Stamped Sentiments sketch challenge for a fun card using the Hey, Chick stamp set (a SAB freebie!!).

I started with So Saffron cardstock for the cardbase and then added a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock for the cardfront.  I've seen several people using the Hexagons Dynamic Embossing Folder to create this fun effect that looks like chicken wire (that is perfect for this stamp set).  I'll admit I tried this several time, the first time I tried inking directly on the embossing folder, that didn't work too much ink transfer.  What finally worked was embossing the paper first ((I did not spritz the paper first) and then using the back side of the embossed paper I VERY LIGHTLY rubbed a sponge with Soft Suede ink across the cardstock so it would just highlight the edges of the embossing.  Looks pretty good I think!

Next I took a piece of Old Olive Designer Series Paper from the Brights Designer Series Paper Stack and first sponged all over to make the white dots look better with the Very Vanilla cardstock and then cut the DSP in two pieces for the different sized strips.  In the center of the two pieces of DSP I added a strip of So Saffron cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and Elegant Dots Embossing Folder.

For the main stamped image I started by stamping the chicken from the Hey, Chick stamp set in Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla and then cut it out with the Big Shot and Stitched Shapes Framelits and then colored in just parts of the chicken with my Stampin' Write Markers (I used the thin tip side and lots of scribbles to make the coloring more random and frazzled, like a chickens).  Then I matted it with a piece of Watermelon Wonder cardstock that I cut out with the Big Shot and Layering Circles Framelits

Now for some fun embellishments....I took a piece of 5/8" Burlap ribbon and cut it in half and then attached it in a zig zag pattern on the cardfront with Fast Fuse Adhesive and then made a little loop of Watermelon Wonder 5/8" Mini Striped Ribbon and attached it so it peaked out from the greeting.  The greeting is from the same stamp set and was stamped in Old Olive ink and then cut out with the same Stitched Shapes Framelits, sponged around the edges with Soft Suede ink and then attached with dimensionals.

I absolutely love how this card turned out!!!  It's so fun and lots of little elements that really catch your eye.  I'll admit, I wasn't a fan of the Hey, Chick stamp set when it first was released for Sale-a-bration but it's been the stamp set I've used the most this year, go figure.  You should give this set a try, I think you'll like it as much as I do.  I'm thinking we may need to make this card at this Sunday's Just Cards class, what do you think?
