Stampin' Stylin' Squad May Blog Hop: Let's Get Punchy!

Good morning!  It’s time for another addition of the Stylin’ Stampin’ Squad blog hop and this month it’s all about punches.  Stampin’ Up! has so many awesome punches that are a basic tool that are indispensable in any crafters toolbox, I just love them.  So for this hop we’re showing you all the fun and creative things you can do with punches.  No I will admit there are some amazing punch artists out there that can create amazing things using these basic tools, I am not one of those people, I have a hard time even recreating punched items (with detailed instructions) but I do like to marvel at others, so I’m going to show you some of the fun things I do with punches to help take projects to the next level and have two cards to share with you today.

As you hop along, please be sure to comment and show some love on every blog! We are always excited to hear from our followers! You should have just left stop number 8 on the Stylin' Stampin' Squad Blog Hop Bree R. of Craft-Somnia ( love all of Bree’s creations!!). If so, you are in the right spot. If a link doesn't work or you get off track, you will find the full blog hop lineup below.

My first card uses one of the techniques my stampers fell in love with the first time I showed it to them.  The cardbase is Melon Mambo and I added a piece of Basic Gray cardstock to mat the Basic Black piece.  For the Basic Black focal piece I took my circle punches (in all different sizes) and punched out various circles in Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Rich Razzleberry cardstock and adhered them randomly to the cardstock, I even overlapped some for extra fun.  Then I took this piece and ran it through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dot Embossing folder and it embeds the circles into the Basic Black piece so it becomes one piece that looks like it came that way (LOVE IT!!!)  This is such a fun technique and I’ve use it with lots of color combinations and it’s always a hit.

For the greeting I used the Tag It stamp set (this is this years Ronald McDonald stamp set and SU donates $2 from each set sold to the Ronald McDonald House Charities and it’s retiring so you’ll want to get it before the end of the month).  I used my Stampin’ Write markers to ink just the interior part of the stamp and then punched it out with the Extra Large Oval Punch.  This is then matted with a piece of Bermuda Bay cardstock that was punched with the Decorative Label Punch and then layered again with the 2 3/8” Scallop Circle punch and Basic Gray cardstock (that I also embossed with the Big Shot and the Arrows Embossing Folder).  The final touch was to add some Rich Razzleberry and Basic Gray ¼” Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon for tails and dimensionals to help it pop.

The second card I have for you is a fun birthday card and uses the Petite Pennants Builder and Cupcake Builder Punches to create the ice cream cone.  The cardbase is Pink Pirouette and I added a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I stamped the greeting on.  Now I have to tell you something funny, when I was creating this card I completed everything, stamped, and then assembled, and it was only then that I used a greeting from the Create a Cupcake stamp set (matches the cupcake punch so I thought I was being clever) that talks about having cupcakes on your birthday, when there are no cupcakes on the card, woops.  I didn’t catch it until I completing finished the card but I decided to share it anyways to show we all make mistakes, and hopefully there’s cupcake flavored ice cream out there somewhere (if not it needs to be created).  I also added a piece of Pink Pirouette DSP from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Package that’s matted with Soft Suede and Chocolate Chip cardstock and then added a piece of Pistachio Pudding Ruffled Ribbon for a soft accent.

For the main punched piece I used Chocolate chip for the back piece and cut it out with the Big Shot and the Window Collection Framelits and then added a piece of Whisper White cardstock that I cut with the Big Shot and the Circle Collection Framelits and embossed with the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder.  For the cone part I punched Crumb Cake cardstock with the Petite Pennant Builder Punch and then embossed it with the Lattice Embossing Folder.  I cut three of the “frosting” pieces with the Cupcake Builder Punch in Pink Pirouette, Soft Suede, and Pistachio Pudding for the ice cream scoops and used lots of dimensionals on each additional layer to they stood up (did you know you can stack dimensionals for extra height?).  Red Glimmer paper and Old Olive Cardstock were used for the cherry on top of the cone.  I absolute love how this card turned out (will have to change the greeting the next time I make it) and is my best attempt at creating something with punches.

I hope you enjoyed this months projects and I’ve inspired you to pull out those punches and think about using them for lots of different things.  Now don’t forget to leave a comment below and then continue on along the hop, the next person is Kim R. and you are going to love what she’s sharing.  Just click the next button below and don’t worry if you get lost, I’ve included a list of all the blogs in the hop so you can easily get to anyone’s projects.

Enjoy!
